C-SPAN at the Movies
March 4, 2011
C-SPAN licenses its logo for fictional use in motion pictures and its video for use in documentaries. Movie producers submit the relevant portion of the script for approval of how C-SPAN is portrayed and pay a small fee. Politico recently published an article about the use of C-SPAN in the movies.
C-SPAN does not get involved in how documentary producers use C-SPAN material. We feel that the C-SPAN reputation for balance is well known and that people understand that the perspective of documentaries is that of their producer and not C-SPAN. The use of licensed C-SPAN material in a documentary in no way implies approval of the point of view of the documentary.
The Video Library and our licensing of video are designed to let viewers and producers use C-SPAN video to make their own arguments. If you see C-SPAN video in a documentary and disagree with its point of view, use the C-SPAN Video Library to post your own clip to make your point.
With the C-SPAN Video Library you can watch it, clip it, share it. All C-SPAN programming is available.
