July 27, 2013
Former Representative Lindy Boggs (D-LA) died at age 97. She succeeded her husband Majority Leader Rep. Hale Boggs (D-LA) when his plane disappeared in Alaska in 1972. She served nine terms in Congress. She came from a political family and her children were involved in politics and media including Thomas Boggs a prominent lobbyist and Cokie Roberts, a journalist, and her late daughter, Barbara Boggs Sigmund, mayor of Princeton, NJ. In 1997 she was appointed Ambassador to the Holy See.
Her congressional career is well documented in the C-SPAN Video Library. Included are appearances on the House floor such as this one.
When she retired from Congress, C-SPAN conducted an interview in which she reflected on her life and career.
